Michael Preston is founder/owner of PRE Records. He has been in the music business for 15 years and worked for some of the biggest names in the biz. While attending the University of California Riverside, Preston hired an unknown band from Orange County to play his fraternity. That band was No Doubt. At the time, Preston didn't realize that his career in the music business had begun. After graduation, Preston started his own management company. He managed ska faves The Skeletones and they toured the country sharing the stage with No Doubt, Korn, Sublime, General Public, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and face to face. The band went on to sell more than 10,000 records on their tiny own label.
A few years later, Preston began an A&R career for the Left Bank Organization/Beyond Music. There, he worked with the Bee Gees, Blondie, Motley Crue, En Vogue, The Cranberries, and John Mellencamp while signing, Better Than Ezra, The Alarm, face to face and Chronic Future among others.
He was Executive Producer for several successful albums including Motley Crue Live (Certified Gold), Swing This, Baby! and Stone Country. He produced "Where Music Meets Film: Live From The Sundance Film Festival"- one of the first CD's that was co-branded with Starbucks.
In 2002, Preston left his Director of A&R position to start PRE Records and help raise his daughter. His first release, Infant Calm came out of necessity as he had a colicky daughter. The only thing that would calm her down was the sound of the hair dryer or oven fan! As a result, he recorded these household sounds that are commonly referred to as "white noise." Infant Calm has gone on to soothe thousand of babies (and their parents!) worldwide!
Now, the father of 2 girls and fully trenched in parenthood, Preston continues to look for clever ways to tie in parenthood and the record business!
